Is this what you’re seeing?
Punch lists build up the same way in every Columbus house. A sample of what we clear every week:
- The list on the fridge. A door that will not latch, a wobbly ceiling fan, a toilet that runs, a screen with a hole, caulk pulling away from the tub. None of it justifies its own contractor visit, so it has sat there since last fall.
- Pre-listing repairs. Your realtor handed you an inspection-style list and the showing photos are scheduled in two weeks.
- Post-inspection requests. You are buying or selling, and the remedy request has nine small items with a deadline attached.
- New-house setup. TV mounting, curtain rods, shelving, anchoring furniture, swapping cabinet hardware, installing a video doorbell.
- Aging-parent updates. Grab bars, handrail tightening, better lighting on the basement stairs, threshold trip fixes.
- Old-house quirks. Doors in 1950s Whitehall or Hilltop homes that stopped closing because the house has settled, plaster cracks that need patching, windows painted shut.
If a task requires a licensed trade, like new electrical circuits or gas work, we say so upfront and stay in our lane. Plenty of real work does not, and that is where a handyman saves you money.
How pricing works
We use three pricing models and tell you which applies before booking:
- Per-task pricing for common, well-defined jobs: mounting a TV, replacing a faucet, hanging a door, installing a storm door. Each task has a set price in the Estimate Builder, so a list of five tasks shows you five line items and a total.
- Half-day block (up to 4 labor hours) when your list is a mix of small items that are faster to bundle than to price one by one. You pay for the block, and our handyman works the list in your priority order.
- Full-day block (up to 8 labor hours) for bigger lists, pre-sale punch-outs, and rental turnovers. The per-hour cost of a full day is lower than a half day, which is the honest math of not paying for two drive times.
Materials are billed at cost with receipts, or you can supply your own. What changes the price: task complexity, wall or ceiling height, material supply, and whether we discover hidden damage (we stop and show you before doing anything unquoted). Preliminary online estimate through the Estimate Builder; final scope and price subject to verification when the handyman sees the work.
What’s included
- One skilled generalist, background-checked, with a stocked van
- Your list worked in the order you set
- Common fasteners, caulk, and consumables for typical tasks
- Photos of completed items you cannot easily check, like roofline or attic work
- A written record of what was completed and what remains
- Cleanup of every work area before we leave
- All work is backed by our standard 1-year labor warranty.
What’s not included
- Work legally requiring a OCILB-licensed electrical partner, plumber, or HVAC contractor beyond simple like-for-like fixture swaps permitted for homeowners’ agents in your jurisdiction (we confirm task by task)
- Structural modifications
- Roofing beyond minor accessible repairs
- Hazardous material handling, including suspected asbestos or lead paint disturbance in pre-1978 homes beyond what safe-work rules allow
Permits and inspections may be required for some tasks; we flag those before booking rather than after.
Why Columbus homes generate these lists
Central Ohio housing spans a century of building styles, and each era fails in its own way. The 1950s-to-1970s homes in Clintonville, Whitehall, and the Hilltop sit on clay soil that swells when wet and shrinks in drought, so these houses move a little every year. That movement is why interior doors stop latching, drywall cracks reappear over door frames, and trim gaps open in winter. None of it is alarming, but all of it needs a hand with a plane, shims, and patience.
Newer builds in Dublin, New Albany, and Lewis Center generate a different list: builder-grade hardware wearing out at year seven, settling cracks at drywall seams, and the long tail of things the builder’s one-year warranty visit never quite covered. Freeze-thaw cycles add the exterior items everywhere: caulk joints that split, weatherstripping that flattens, and storm door closers that give up in the first hard cold snap.
Our process
- List your tasks in the Estimate Builder. Pick from common tasks or describe your own. You get a preliminary online estimate and a recommendation of per-task, half-day, or full-day pricing.
- Book a slot online or call (614) 382-0000. Same-day availability may be available for short lists.
- Confirm on arrival. The handyman reviews the list with you, confirms pricing, and flags anything outside scope. Final scope and price subject to verification here.
- Work the list. Your priority order, with photos and check-ins on anything unexpected.
- Walkthrough and record. You review each item, sign off, and get a written summary useful for realtors, insurers, or your own records.
Our technicians are Bonded & Insured Professionals.
