Site restoration is the right call in these situations:

• Excavation work on your property is finished and the ground has already been backfilled and roughly graded, and now you want the cosmetic recovery: topsoil, grass, and landscaping put back so the yard looks normal again.
• You want reseeding or sod over the area disturbed by a trench, a foundation dig, or any other excavation footprint, matched reasonably to the surrounding lawn.
• A driveway, walkway, or patio edge was disturbed during excavation and needs patching so it isn’t left with a rough seam or an unfinished edge.
• Landscaping, mulch beds, or plantings were removed to allow excavation access and need to be restored or replaced.

How pricing works

Site restoration is priced as a range, driven by the size of the disturbed area and the scope of cosmetic recovery involved:

• Area to restore. A narrow trench line is a smaller job than a wide excavation footprint or a full backyard disturbed by a larger project.
• Topsoil versus existing soil. Bringing in fresh topsoil to rebuild a workable planting surface, rather than reusing what’s already there, adds a line item.
• Seed versus sod. Seed is less expensive upfront and takes longer to establish; sod costs more but gives an immediate finished look. We price both so you can choose.
• Landscaping and hardscape recovery. Replacing mulch beds, small plantings, or patching a driveway or walkway edge is priced by scope, since materials and labor vary widely.
• What changes the price: how much of the disturbed area needs fresh topsoil versus regrading existing soil, seed versus sod, and how much landscaping or hardscape recovery is involved beyond basic turf.

Central Ohio context for finishing after excavation

Central Ohio’s clay soil is part of why the topsoil step matters here more than it might elsewhere. Builder-graded lots often have only a thin layer of topsoil over compacted clay subsoil to begin with, and once that thin layer is disturbed by an excavation footprint, simply reseeding directly into exposed clay tends to struggle. Bringing in fresh topsoil before seed or sod gives grass an actual chance to establish rather than fighting bare subsoil. Seasonal timing matters too: spring and fall are the strongest windows for seed to establish here, while sod can go down through most of the growing season if watered properly, though grass seed germination and lawn recovery timing always depends on weather and season and can’t be guaranteed.

Older Central Ohio lots occasionally surface a different issue during the excavation that came before this restoration step: old buried debris, an abandoned fuel oil tank, or contaminated fill left by a prior structure. 5. Hardscape patching and final walkthrough. Driveway or walkway edges patched, and a final walkthrough confirming the site looks finished, not just backfilled.
